[At least she'll know to put her money where her mouth is, in the sense that she's been in space before this. A different, colder space. A hungrier one. But it's like riding a bicycle. (Which she has never done.)
Raelle gets a solid handshake, at least.]
Oh, yeah - as best as I can. Stick close.
[She pulls out her holo and scrolls down to her assignment quickly, just to see where they're headed.] We're collecting metal and mineral samples. Cool.
... Don't have to tell me twice, (she mutters, satisfied with both the firm handshake and the way that raven looks at her, like she's appraising her. so she leans closer to glance at the holo screen, scanning the display– it's startlingly futuristic to her. everything at fort salem is old, and clunky. sometimes she wonders if it's because the general prefers it that way.)
Oh. (that... seems anti-climatic, some how,) Is– that all?
Honestly, from what I've seen so far, not everything on board the fleet is melodramatic. [She flashes Raelle a quick smile.] They keep the weird shit for Fridays.
[On cue, the dropship's doors open and the team leaders begin to usher them all out. There's missions and researching to be done now.]
(raelle grins in return, though it jolts off her face when the doors suddenly open.)
Got it. (she actually has no idea what day of the week it is... hopefully it's a thursday. maybe because this feels no different than being in basic as they're ushered out by a team leader, and grouped off into pairs. raelle sticks pointedly next to raven, the only person whose name she knows.)
[This is fine. The team-up is fine. Not in her style to be a mentor (bullshit: she's a great mentor) but she'll take Raelle under her wing (pun not intended). Metaphorically, anyway - Raelle strikes her like a relatively capable woman.
She has to be, otherwise why end up on a planet exploration team?]
Don't think so. I mean, the initial scans from the ship give us a relative idea of the topography, but we have no idea what we're expecting, since...first time on the planet and all. [That said, she pushes some techy buttons and swipes on her 3d screed a bit and voila, nifty GPS of a sort. God, she fucking loves the tech in this world. Lady boner every time.]
Alright, this way for mountains. [Now she's hoping the climb's not steep, because her brace - while new and better made - doesn't make up for ability to climb without tiring out.]

she takes her hand without hesitation.)
Raelle Collar. Can I count on you to show me the ropes?

Did we get a map?
